Loxahatchee River Race May 25, 2024
Race day turned out to be one of the warmest days of the season so far, but a light breeze later in the morning helped everyone to finish relatively comfortably. The total field of 55 vessels included everything from three Dragon Boats to recreational kayaks and SUPs. Competition was the fiercest in the largest category of surf skis in the 10-mile event, culminating in a photo finish between Lee McGregor and Jason Larkin – this could have gone either way throughout the full distance and both deserve credit for a hard-fought battle.

We were also honored to have a well-known historian and author, Jim Snyder, attend to both paddle the short course and to entertain with some engaging conversations about the river and the surrounding areas. A long-time resident of Jupiter, he has written many books about this area and was happy to share part of his wealth of knowledge with all of us.

Thanks to all of our volunteer help (Tom Fucigna, Kellie Nehrenz, Debra Northsea), as well Ted Perron from the Florida Paddling Trails Association for the scoring and awards organizing.

After a long year of social distancing, it was refreshing to have such a great turnout for our May event. We'd like to thank everyone who came to paddle or cheer on the paddlers, and the enthusiastic volunteers who made the event come together.

We want to thank everyone who came and participated in our 17th Great Loxahatchee River Race on May 18, 2019. Everything seemed to come together well - great weather, high water, good varied assortment of kayaks, canoes, SUPs, and even a dory! Plus we had great volunteer help: Ted Perron (post-event tallying and awards emcee) and John Corzine (photography)
from the FPTA, Debra Northsea (registration and lunch prep), and Kellie Nehrenz (lunch management). Thank you for helping make this day a success.
